Larry M. Cockrum, 1941-2003, Green Ridge

Larry M. Cockrum, 62, of Green Ridge, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.

He was born June 15, 1941, in Warsaw, a son of William Alfred and Bessie Faye Crowder Cockrum. On Aug. 28, 1966, in Ionia, he was married to Nancy May Ransdell, who survives of the home.

Mr. Cockrum worked for the Missouri Highway Department at the Knob Noster shed for 28 years. He retired in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He enjoyed country and western music. He played the fiddle and guitar in two bands, "Country Cross Roads" and a band made up of his friends, including two he had known all his life. When he was younger, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball. He was an outfielder and pitcher for several teams. He also helped coach children's T-ball and Little League games.

Also surviving are three sons, Alfred M. Cockrum, of Warsaw, Joseph M. Cockrum and Andy M. Cockrum, both of the home; a daughter, Teresa Crandall, of Higginsville; three brothers, Junior Cockrum and Denny Cockrum, both of Knob Noster, and Vernon Cockrum, of Centerview; and five grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Glen Cockrum.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hadley Funeral Home in Windsor, with the Rev. Roger E. Brant officiating. Burial will be in Green Ridge Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial fund has been established to help provide a monument for Larry. Contributions may be sent to the funeral home.
